Seriously,
Does ANYONE Like Clowns?
I mean someone HAS to or else they would have ceased to exist by now, but everyone I’ve met in my life–young, old and in-between–has expressed only either terror or indifference regarding these “playful” denizens of circuses and kids’ birthday parties. I suppose many of these folks would admit to not minding a few specific examples, like Bozo or Ronald McDonald or Rush Limbaugh, but in general the whole clown concept seems to be one that gets more thumbs down than up.
Do you like clowns? If so, why? JUSTIFY YOUR CLOWN LOVING WAYS!

NOPE NOPE NOPE. “It” and “Killer Klowns From Outer Space” were only the nails in the coffin of coulrophobia as far as I’m concerned. Even Bozo the Clown on his eponymous TV show was pretty off-putting.
A therapist also can coach you on how to deal with the temptation of taking alcohol. And you may be training yourself, and your body, to drink less. Alcohol addiction actually causes intense cravings creating a massive should drink.
My mom used to hire a clown named Crackers for my birthday parties. She had a funny British accent and made balloon animals. She must have been a hit because we had her two or three years in a row.
I think it’s the last 35 years of pop culture that have destroyed what used to be a legit comic art form. That’s sad. Why does everything have to turn dark? What’s next?
NO TO CLOWNS

That’s a good point. I also think that “It” scared the heck out of a lot of Gen Y at just the right age to make us terrified of clowns forever.
In elementary school, I loathed language arts exercises that included some hypothetical child saying that their favorite part of the circus is the clowns. With exception for Bozo or Ronald, they all made me uncomfortable. That aside, there was ONE clown that did not scare me, but she wasn’t in makeup at the time. My brother and I (4 and 7, respectively) were standing in a VERY long line with our dad, waiting to get on a carnival ride. This woman had us laughing the entire time, and she told our dad that she was a professional clown. She showed… Read more »
I think as a form of performance, clowning can be very entertaining, but too often bad clowns rely on the accoutrements of the craft rather than the craft itself and the result is a scary dude in makeup acting like an imbecile.
When I was a kid, I loved the clown acts in the circus. Why, because they made me laugh. I still like clowns, at least many clowns, for the same reason. I really don’t understand why there should be a problem, or how this post found its way onto The Good Men Project.
Tis the season, and it’s okay for men to talk about things that scare them.
🙂
I’m not afraid of baby clowns. Does that count?
No.
