You’re given a choice
between two superpowers–
flight or super speed.
Which one do you pick?
The ability to glide in the air like a bird–free and untethered by gravity. No more air fare or cramped seats, just a little wind resistance and a sharp watch out for stray geese. All those dreams you’ve had are now a reality. Imagine how this would help you on the right date!

Your life is spent in the ticks of a watch. There is no task you can’t accomplish, so long as time is your only barrier. You’re never late ever again and you don’t have to pay for car insurance or gas (although constantly replacing your shoes might get a bit expensive).
A soaring figure in the sky or a blur of constant movement? Which one sounds more appealing?
Put me in for flying. I’d love to skip rush hour traffic.
Honestly, this is an easy one for me: superspeed. Of course, that’s mostly due to the fact that I am terrified of heights. Still, the ability to get things done in a fraction of the time is awesome.
I’d take speed over flight. Seems like that would have more practical everyday applications. But, given the choice of any superpower from a major superhero … I’d take Bruce Wayne’s self-discipline without a second thought.

Don’t worry Jack, there’s going to be plenty of opportunities to consider other superpowers in the future.
Well, duh. Superspeed, obviously.
If you have enough superspeed, you can use it to fly. It’s a question of your suit, your aerodynamics, and your technique. (Think bumblebee.)
Being superfast can make you fly, but flying doesn’t necessarily make you superfast.
I’d take flying. But I would have to be discreet because I wouldn’t want to get in trouble with the FAA or anything.
Too much left unsaid in debates like this – Does flight come with the ability to breathe comfortably while flying? What about the ability to withstand extreme temperatures higher in the atmosphere? How much could you carry? How fast can you fly? With speed, do you have the innate ability to safely navigate obstacles while running fast? Can you breathe at those speeds? What happens to your clothes and shoes at those speeds? Can you run faster than the other guy can fly? Same problems arise with other power debates. If you’re offering me invisibility, are my clothes invisible too… Read more »
Don’t jump ahead, Tom. We’re gonna get to invisibility soon enough!
My feeling is that you just gotta assume all related problems are taken care of with the superpower.
Yes, you can breathe and fly comfortably, etc.
Actually I think it’s much more fun to blindly make your choice and then contemplate what the consequences of it would be. I mean who really buys anything knowing EXACTLY what they are getting?
Flight. Because I live in LA and one word: Traffic.
I always have wished for the power of flight, but speed could come in much handier… I wish we had more parameters around this one. For instance, how fast can I go? Because let’s say I can run at lightning speed. I’d literally hit everybody unless my brain could also somehow process that much faster. And what about shoes? What about inclement weather? I don’t need a car, but how flipping cold would it be running everywhere in the middle of January? So many questions…
Wouldn’t it also get cold if you were flying though? Especially as you got higher up into the atmosphere–even during the summer!
Speed. Because Einstein.
Energy = mass x the speed of light.
Super speed gets much more powerful the faster you go.
JFB
This is tough.
I’ve had a lot of levitating/flying dreams over the years and it is cool.
But, super speed could help me be a pro athlete….
I’ll go with speed.
