What’s the best compliment
you’ve ever received?
On Thursday night I was chatting online with a friend and something I said caused them to respond:
You’re like if my favorite candy bar wished to be a man, a genie granted it & it became Allan.
It’s probably the nicest and most whimsical way a person could ever be called sweet and it struck me as one of the most creative and wonderful compliments I’ve ever received.
What’s the one compliment you’ve gotten that’s always stood out to you as your favourite–the one you’d have serve as your personal epitaph?
‘It didn’t smell that bad for you to be in there so long.’
Recently a friend told me that I had inspired him to wear a flamboyant scarf after seeing me wear one with no regard for how others viewed me. It may sound backwards, but it was inspiring to be told that I had been an inspiration for him. Be who you are.
A few years ago, I finally tracked down the high school English teacher who’d served as my mentor until well into college and was the single most important figure in my choosing to become a writer.
