Similar to Moe

I loved her because of the angle of her Picasso nose

And her blue-ruffled skirt

And her unconventional hair

(Like a bowl cut—Moe Three Stooges)

And her latticed shoes

And I did not think of sex or sex gods too much,

But her ankles and ill-proportioned calves

She passed but did not look at me and still my mortal-sin eyes

I, being old and only as beautiful as poor Caliban.

Then again pierce despair

There is always a girl mocking all the taut boys

With her bobbing, profane Spandexed ass

Tim Ruane is an artist and writer. He is a graduate of Georgetown University, where he studied English and art, and has worked as a chief copy editor in the editorial department of The Washington Post, where he has also worked as a freelance photographer. He has written hundreds of poems, two novels a number of short stories. His photographs have been published by The Washington Post, Simon & Schuster and The Good Men Project. He has shown his photographs at Potomac MD Public Library and is scheduled to be published in ShareArt LA, Circumfleks Magazine and Splinter Literary Journal.
