You might be surprised by the similarities, but not in the way you might expect.
When I first read the headline for this YouTube video by Taylor Mali, the voices of all of the cynical marriage memes from the dark corners of the internet leapt into my head in a sarcastic voice. (“You will be on a leash forever!” and “You’ll never be able to go out with your friends by yourself ever again!”) But those voices — at least in good, healthy marriages — are not true.
So I hit play. I was pleasantly surprised and moved by the video.
Just an example of the powerful parallels that are delivered humorously and tenderly by Mali:
On cold winter nights, love is warm.
It lies between you and lives and breathes
and makes funny noises.
Here is the full text of the poem if you prefer to read it.
What is your favorite analogy to use for love?
