Has it felt like you’re constantly striking out on Tinder? Maybe you’re not getting matches, or even if you are, nothing comes from them anyway. If you have good photos and have shown a bit of your personality in your profile, you might be wondering what else you can do to increase your odds of finding love on Tinder.
Well, it turns out that there might be a reason why you’re still single and scrolling through the app — and it actually has nothing to do with you. Let’s take a look at what researchers have found about Tinder users and their dating intentions.
A Survey Reveals Something That May (Or May Not) Shock You
As frustrating as it can be to find no dates actually coming off of Tinder, there just may be a reason for it. A 2023 survey of more than 1,300 Tinder users between the ages of 17 and 84 revealed the following stats:
- 50% weren’t interested in meeting in real life
- Approximately 66% of users were married or in a relationship
Researchers suspect that many users may be using the app as a coping mechanism for mental health.
Even though the users surveyed lived in France and Switzerland, it seems likely that the same numbers likely apply to the United States as well. After all, how many times have you been ghosted after suggesting meeting up in real life?
So, What Should Singles Do?
If you’re trying to meet someone in real life, there are a few things you can do to try to increase your odds of matching with users who want the same things as you do. Here are some tips:
- Make your intentions clear in your profile. When it comes to dating app profiles, you’re always taking a gamble. Not every user reads a profile when they match with us. That being said, it’s best to choose the appropriate settings and make it clear that you’re looking for something serious. Hopefully, dating app users who aren’t looking for the same things as you are will swipe left.
- Filter out anyone who’s not on the same page. Be sure to use filters on Tinder (and any other dating apps you use). Only match with users who are looking for a relationship or marriage if you want to increase your chances of finding someone who’s looking for a serious commitment.
- Be upfront about your intentions from the get-go. Instead of chatting back and forth with someone for days or weeks before discussing what you’re looking for, try to bring it up fairly early into chatting with someone. The majority of the time, users who aren’t looking for a serious commitment will be honest about their intentions. If someone gives you a response that seems a little wishy-washy, trust your gut and move on.
Consider Meeting Someone IRL
Instead of trying to meet someone on a dating app who wants to meet in real life, why not meet someone in real life? Dating apps are only one outlet for finding love. A lot of singles are attending events like concerts and festivals to find love nowadays. From the grocery store and coffee shops to bars and dog parks, you never know where you might find love out in the real world!
Dating apps were designed to make life easier for us, but honestly? They’ve lost their appeal. Being clear about your intentions is the best thing you can do, but sometimes switching it up and trying to put yourself out there in real life may be the way to go if you’re not having luck on the apps.
