We as modern people, must be aware of the carbon, energetic and emotional footprints we are breathing and we are leaving on our planet. We as modern people must actualize our individual strengths to support the whole of our earth society. Because power is like a tree with its trunk: branches and leaves that feed from the sun and the water gathered by its roots. The leaves and the roots are as equally important and need to be nourished. The power is in the feeding.
The power of the people is symbolized as the joint efforts of the hand. The human hand could symbolize the five races of this planet: black, white, red, yellow and brown. The clenched fist of the 60’s, to me, symbolized the power of joining together in a powerful unity of cause and respect of the human condition. The power is in the joining.
All fingers and thumbs are needed to work together, in order to complete any task at hand.
It is the working together that enables the flow of energy to move quickly to build a house, design and build a city or a loving hand to hold the hand of a child in need of safety. Power lives within the hands of gifting.
Power is a dance of balance between males and females, governments and its people and the haves and the have-nots. Power is the ability to control people and/or events. Power is also the ability to create change and a nurturing environment for all people. If a person wakes up each morning with the knowledge they are a lesser being living upon this earth, there is an imbalance of power. The imbalance of power can be characterized as weakened roots in plants and trees, and low self-esteem in human beings. Imbalance of power is living without.
It is like taking a rose from the sun and expecting it to bloom into its fully expected luster, as each petal falls like dry tears. Restricting sun or water access would only restrict the power of its growth. In that sense, people are like plants. The balance of care and compassion determines the quality of life, as opposed to existing in the state of imbalance which is a state of lack, no equality.
Our power footprints have left stains as well as gains. Hopefully we attempt to remove the stains left on the face of our planet, in the hearts and souls of its people. Each decade within the 20th century has it rising, its rage against the machine that holds the real power, from women’s rights, black rights, gay rights, Asian people’s rights, brown people’s rights, religious rights, native American and immigration rights, men’s rights and now, just plain old human rights. Our powers are splintered with cracks printed in the footprints, in the fractured notes we attempt to sing.
Each individual group found it necessary to speak and find themselves a public voice. Each individual group needed to secure their voice within the human choir. It was necessary to know their specific parts and the value of their own sacred sound, so the unified voice of the human choir could be sung more clearly with a more balanced knowledge of fine tuning of the ears. It is the holding of the village prayer cloth, the sounds that are threads that weave all that is broken. It is a ritual of being, a new way of hearing, a new way of joining and a refined weaving of the cloth of power.
But it seems it has become a screaming match of whose voice should be listened to first. We all need to be heard. The threads of the cloth of power are unraveling. We all need to learn to tie the threads and listen with compassion to the beauty of all the voices. So, it is our moment that we may sing a song of blended love. But, we are stepping on each other’s throats, smashing fingers trying to get to the front of the line. We are all fighting for power and have forgotten the fact of life we are all interdependent, the fact we are all living in a healing circle. We are all living with open wounds ready to be closed with the salve of compassion for ourselves and all the others standing against the wind of fear and the feelings of lack.
Echoing in the wind is the truth of the matter, we have the ability to act or produce an effect of change which can look like abundance, or human wealth. The effect we could produce is shared power in our modern world. Men and women, religions and cultures, governments and its people, we have the capacity to be unified in purpose, if we learn to share, commune power.
When we cease to be a part of the divide and conquer agenda, we could learn to support our individual selves and our society. Being in a united state of being connected to shared power allows us to “rage against the machine” that has historically enslaved us. It is time to be mature and not be afraid of losing power, but breathe in gaining power, as we are standing in the belly and the bell of the echo of change. It is time to clasp hands, walk together in peace to bring the power back to the people.
