When you were younger, there were certain things you didn’t enjoy. Am I right? Some foods, some places, some people, perhaps some times didn’t go well with you. Those were your peculiar childhood turnoffs, which were normal.
But then, you grew up. Looking back, you go, “Oh goodness! I can’t believe a lot has changed already.” You’re overwhelmed by how far you’ve come. They awe you; those choices you now make.
For me, growing up, I hated beans, green veggies, okra soup, and bush mango (Ògbònò) soup. If I found beans or green veggies in my meal, then it was a call to duty. I’d spend a lot of my time picking them out. I remember clearly, when I was about five years old, taking my time to pick the beans off my plate of rice and beans before eating.
It was that ridiculous! I just hope I don’t get laughed at. While others enjoyed those slimy soups, like okra soup, or bush mango soup, I had to eat something else. The sight of those slimy soups made me want to throw up. And, anytime I perceived that others were enjoying themselves, I was like, “What the…? How in the peanut are you guys enjoying that?”
Today, I look back and can’t help but to appreciate the beautiful turn of events. You won’t believe it, but right now, bean meals are among my best delicacies. I enjoy every soup, especially if it is well prepared, and of course, full of good meat. I also now love green veggies so much.
I may not know your story, but you most probably have unlearnt some of the things you learned in childhood. Learning new things from time to time, you’ve begun making new choices based on your experiences.
No longer do I wait for someone to persuade me to eat green veggies and fruits at this point. They are great for my health. Because I know that, I simply help myself, despising the taste, and defying my appetite sometimes.
Just recently, I began hydrating more frequently. I know that doing that will help my digestion, and improve my health generally. So, I go all in, drinking a lot of water from time to time, and motivating myself to keep it up.
Doing all that, I simply found out that that’s how everything works. Drifting away from childhood means carrying a myriad of experiences along with you. With those experiences, your choice system begins to modify itself to adapt adequately to what you now know.
You stop some things, you lose some things, you change some things, you work on some things, and you accept some things. Look how far you’ve come. It’s very interesting to observe how dynamic you can be- to become your own fan and watch yourself grow. In the end, you are much better, wiser, and stronger than you ever were.
Time will grow you. Time is a sine qua non for every change that will ever happen in your life, and you, my friend, have come a long way.
Don’t stop growing!
