Guest editor Nick Florest wants your stories of addiction.
As the old saying goes, everyone has a vice; a weakness for some thing. We all pick poisons as a way of making reality ‘better’. And with the many roads of life to choose, almost anything can become an addiction. Sometimes we are well aware of their effects and use them to our life’s benefit. Sometimes they take complete control and cause us to become someone who we aren’t, destroying our life’s work.
However, living in a society during an economic, political and social downturn, depression is rampant and addiction rates are higher than ever and we are looking to new, sometimes more dangerous methods of coping.
What is/was your addiction? Food? Drugs? Alcohol? Power? Work? Sex? Exercise? Religion?
How do you cope/did you overcome?
What/when was your moment of clarity?
What triggers, if any, a desire to relapse?
What was your biggest loss/regret?
Email your stories, photos, poetry, and articles on addiction to Nick Florest at [email protected]. Anonymous submissions are accepted, but please specify this in writing at the time of your submission. Completed submissions are due by Saturday, September 1, 2012 for consideration.

I just discovered this site so I don’t know the protocol. Are women allowed to enter submissions on this topic, too, or just men?
Women are most definitely welcome to submit pieces. We want all perspectives that can be offered. Thanks!
