Relocating in the city of Chicago is comparable to that friend who, at times, maybe so excruciatingly Midwestern, always repeating “sorry” at the beginning and end of every statement, yet is a master jaywalker.
You are weary of listening to this friend complain that the college town where the two of you received your education does not have any decent restaurants offering Italian meat. You respect this friend for their worldliness, outgoing disposition, and ability to adapt to whatever comes their way, regardless of the circumstances. Putting the elitism of Italian beef to one side, this is the friend you value because of their capacity to adapt.
Chicago is all about having a good time while also being open to new experiences and ideas. There is a lot more to see and do in Chicago besides the attractions that are more obvious, such as the delicious food, the outdoor concerts, and the public transportation that is easy to use. From the point of view of a native Chicagoan, here are 10 good reasons why you should relocate to Chicago.
Chicago is an Excellent Place to Work From Home
Particularly now, when an increasing number of businesses are transitioning to remote work permanently, Chicago is an ideal location for remote employees. There are a multitude of public libraries, cafés, and coworking locations that may liven up your workdays and provide a welcome change of scenery if you feel the need for a break from the monotony of working from home.
You can spend your WFH day at the roomy Marshall’s Landing at the Merchandise Mart, or you can check out Spaces, which is located in the West Loop.
Chicago Has the Most Fun Things to Do
You should relocate to Chicago if you want to be amazed by a wide range of entertainment options. Outdoor concerts with a view of the metropolis are held on Northerly Island, and the theater area is always bustling with productions from the Chicago Lyric Opera, the Chicago Ballet, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
There are also innumerable additional events held in the city every day of the year. Chicago is home to a wide variety of world-class venues with superb acoustics. A Pilsen landmark, the spacious yet intimate Thalia Hall hosts a variety of musical performances each year. The intimate setting of Lincoln Park’s Lincoln Hall attracts a wide range of musical acts. Its sister establishment, Schubas, may be found in the old Schlitz brewery in Lakeview. Live bands ranging from indie rock to jazz perform at this cozy little venue.
The Chicago Theatre is an iconic landmark known for its beautiful interior and history of staging world-class performances by superstars. The Aragon Ballroom, which first opened in Chicago in 1926, is a top venue for seeing a live performance.
The luxurious Uptown site is an architectural tour de force. Nearly 30 years later, Metro has remained Chicago’s best alternative music venue. Established artists and up-and-coming acts from the region perform regularly at the modest cash-only club.
The Vic Theatre, a classic among Chicago concert halls, is a great illustration of the genre. The lavish, five-story vaudeville theater in Central Lakeview has great acoustics and balcony seating for audience members.
Chicago is a Center of Culture
Living in Chicago will expose you to people from all walks of life and their unique cultural traditions. It is what gives Chicago its identity and what has helped elevate it to the status of a metropolis on par with the best in the world.
There is a great deal of information to be gleaned on the history and culture of the city, as well as the beginnings of the several distinct neighborhoods. The following are some museums where you can do that:
- National Museum of Mexican Artin Pilsen
- DuSable Black History Museum in Hyde Park
- Ukrainian Institute of Modern Artin Ukrainian Village
- National Cambodian Heritage Museumon Chicago’s North Side
In Chicago, It’s Easy to Find a Place to Live
One of the reasons why it is so amazing to relocate to Chicago is that there is no pressure to conform to the culture there, which may seem like a cliche but is one of the reasons why Chicago is so fantastic.
You may find a community wherever you go and surround yourself with individuals who have the same values as you. You could be interested in forming an academic cohort with other students while you are in school, or you might want to try something that you have never done before, such as taking an improv class at The Second City.
Whatever it may be, residents of Chicago are known for their daring spirit and warm welcome.
Chicago Summers are The Best of The Best
You’ll be OK through the cold months. Some of the best things to do in the winter include shopping at the Christkindl Market, ice skating in Maggie Daley Park, and sipping espresso martinis in a heated igloo-shaped rooftop tent. You will emerge from your first Chicago winter stronger in April (or May, in certain cases—my apologies in advance).
Moving to Chicago in the summer is fantastic.. The city comes to life via its many forms of entertainment: music, dining on rooftop terraces, and breathtaking views of the cityscape. Chicago’s winters are bearable once you’ve had a drink on the riverwalk.
Mid-Taste Chicago’s largest culinary festival is held in July. There will be food trucks, local restaurants, pop-up eateries, and the Celebrity Chef du Jour dining tents all set up along the lakeside for the party. Every summer, Chicago hosts the Windy City Smokeout, a festival with barbecue, live music, and a wide selection of beers.
There will be three days of alternative music, rap and hip-hop, electronica, avant-garde rock, and hardcore punk at the Pitchfork Music Festival at Union Park in July. Grant Park’s early-August Lollapalooza is a popular event.
Final Thoughts
Of course, every city has its flaws, and residents know better than anybody that safety, transit, housing, financing, and protection for communities of color can all be improved. Chicago has several benefits that make it stand out, despite its drawbacks.
Despite local prejudice, Chicago is the best. That reverses the bad meaning. If you relocate to Chicago after visiting, you’ll find it’s a great location to live and make memories so if you decide to live or move there you should contact Falcon Moving.
