What’s an affair like?
One Redditor described it:
It’s like getting invited to go on a cruise to exotic new locales, dancing on the Lido deck, and all the yummy food and good stuff. The only problem is that you know you’re on the Titanic the whole time. If you can handle the knowledge that there’s an iceberg somewhere in your future, it’s wonderful.
You think you are prepared for the iceberg, but you’re not.
You are on deck and horrified at the unfolding disaster, waiting for the inevitable sinking.
You get the message you’ve been dreading. “I can’t do this anymore…”
That one.
The pit of your stomach drops to the bottom of the ocean.
In affairs, we may find the “perfect” partner, but it can come crashing down for any number of reasons. Then, you feel the sting. You will silently grieve. And you may never want to dip your toe back in the water.
Every affair has a fuse that is lit the moment two people say hello. No one knows how long it will burn, but it continues every single day they are together. Eventually, it will flame out. How it affects us depends on how well we protect our hearts.
You are the iceberg, and your lover is the ship.
One of you is going down.
It’s all avoidable if you had steered correctly. Yet, people don’t always see the danger under the surface until it’s too late.
Tell me your Titanic disasters of adultery in the comments.
