‘Amélie‘ is out now on Blu-Ray
I enjoy a good romantic comedy sometimes. When they are done right, they can tell a pretty touching story which can be a joy to watch unfold. The first time I saw Amélie, it ended up being better than I expected it to be. When I heard this film was coming out on Blu-Ray, I hoped I would get to watch it again. I was able to get a review copy of this movie, and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Amélie here:
Bursting with imagination and having seen her share of tragedy and fantasy, Amélie is not like the other girls. When she grows up, she becomes a waitress in a Montmartre bar run by a former dancer. Amélie enjoys simple pleasures until she discovers that her goal in life is to help others. To that end, she invents all sorts of tricks that allow her to intervene incognito into other people’s lives, including an imbibing concierge and her hypochondriac neighbor. But Amélie’s most difficult case turns out to be Nino Quicampoix, a lonely sex shop employee who collects photos abandoned at coin-operated photo-booths.
It was nice watching this film again. Although it had been years since I have seen it, the story it told was a touching one. We see a simple woman who decides to help those around her however they can. Along the way, they learn a good lesson or two. Once this story comes to a close, life for Amélie will never be the same. ‘Jean-Pierre Jeunet Looks Back’ had the director reminiscing about making this movie and how they had no idea how popular it would end up being. ‘The Look of Amélie’ showed some of the ways that they made this film and how they made the colors pop off the screen. ‘Fantasies of Audrey Tautou’ was a Gag Reel of sorts and also showed how much fun the cast had making this movie.
Amélie is available now on Blu-Ray and DVD.
