Society has been through a lot over the last three years. The lockdown periods were moments that created a void in our lives, and that made us question who we were and what we wanted to do moving forward. But it is still easy to lose ourselves, as the war in Ukraine still goes on and inflation makes it harder to survive. When we need to feel stronger, we can do so through artwork. Here is how and why.
Creating a World Similar to Us in Our Own Home
Artworks are more than just decoration inside a house. They were made of sentiments that an artist gathered inside him and brought back out in a painting, a photograph or a sculpture. These emotions talk to us. They do it for the very first time when we come into contact with the artwork and continue to do so the whole time that it cohabits with us, in our home. We find ourselves through them. They attract us for the mere fact that we recognized ourselves in what they exude. This creates comfort inside us and helps us see things more clearly.
Finding the right Style for You
If you haven’t entered the world of artwork collection yet, the first thing you will need to do is to find the style of art that fits your individuality. Some find themselves when they discover modern abstract paintings, while others will see their reflection in portraits or nudes. Sculptures are also a very strong medium. The fact that you can caress them brings you closer to the artwork. There is another level of conversation between you and them, stronger than simply looking at a painting. Others will find that photographs are what bring them to peace. It will make them travel into their inner world, as they create stories related to what they are looking at. One picture can bring millions of stories to mind.
Seeing Ourself in Someone Else’s Work
When someone finds the type of artwork that makes them happy, they want to place them all around their home. It becomes an object of comfort as if you were surrounded by friends that understand you. In truth, it is the understanding of one’s self that makes them so important to us. The meaning that the artwork possesses for the artist will never (or rarely) be the same as the one it has for us. Our lives are made of memories of events that have created us the way that we are. When we look at the artworks that we love, they remind us of some of them. They can also come in as the missing piece; the moment that we desired but that never came to be. However, in many cases, it speaks about us – not about the artist.
This is why artwork can be very helpful in our lives. Although they were created by someone else, they still reflect a truth buried deep inside of us. Something that is so important to us, that we like to be reminded of it, every day.
