Go on a fascinating journey in ‘Eighth Grade’
I have seen a few coming of age films recently. They are usually good, but I have seen some not good ones too. I saw Edge of Seventeen and really enjoyed it, and heard good things about Eighth Grade. When I heard it was coming to Blu-Ray I was hoping I would get to watch it. I was able to get a review copy and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Eighth Grade here:
Thirteen-year-old Kayla endures the tidal wave of contemporary suburban adolescence as she makes her way through the last week of middle school — the end of her thus far disastrous eighth grade year — before she begins high school.
I wasn’t that impressed with Eighth Grade at first. The movie started off slow and was kind of boring. I also didn’t like Kayla much, she was awkward and kind of strange. Yet as the movie moved forward she does become much more likable. I found myself being able to relate to the journey she was on, and how peculiar being a teenager for me was. This film also took a serious look at how important social media is to kids these days, and how it affects their everyday lives. It was frightening to see this truth, but it added realism to this story. I am not sure if this film will be for everyone, but I can see most people really liking it.
Eighth Grade comes out on Blu-Ray and DVD October 9th. You can follow this movie on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
