Here is my list of the Top Ten Best Films of 2017
Each year I get to see a lot of different movies. Once in a while I see a film that blew me away. Out of all of the movies I saw this year, only some of them stood out. Here are my top ten best films of 2017.
1. Ladybird
This was by far the one of the best films I saw all year. Even though it was a simple coming of age story, it really struck a cord with me. It is true it was mostly filmed in my hometown, and showed many streets and businesses I go by all the time. I think what I liked most about it though was that it told a great story.
2. The Lego Batman Movie
This movie was silly, and at times didn’t take itself that seriously. But that was what I liked most about it. It had plenty of jokes poking fun at previous Batman projects, and was a non stop hilarious ride from start to finish. It had a great cast, and was a film that surprised me in many ways.
3. The Zookeeper’s Wife
Jessica Chastain has been hit or miss lately. Yet this movie was by far her best of the year. It told an amazing true story, had a wonderful cast and plenty of drama. They all played their roles perfectly, and you felt for all of them. It was unlike the usual war films you see, and focused on people who took a great risk to help people out. One of the best films I saw this year.
4. Wonder Woman
DC hasn’t had that great of a track record with their live action films, but this movie restored some hope for fans. It was by far the one of the best films they have done yet, and Gal Gadot proved she was meant to play this character. The movie had action, drama, comedy, suspense and took me on an amazing adventure.
5. Baby Driver
This was a film that took audiences on an adrenaline pumped ride. It had an amazing soundtrack, a great cast, and told a pretty good story. It has a few minor faults, but overall was a movie that I really enjoyed. Definitely ended up liking it more than I expected I would.
6. It
I am a big Tim Curry fan, and I loved the first It movie. So when I heard this one was coming out, I had doubts. Yet this movie turned out to be really good. It went places the TV special never could, and showed new sides to Pennywise the Clown. The special effects were unbelievable, and breathed new life into this story. The kids were great, and did a wonderful job holding much of the weight of this film.
7. Victoria and Abdul
This was a movie that told a tale that only was discovered a number of years ago. Judi Dench and Ali Fazal worked surprisingly well together. It was a tale of a friendship that changed both of their lives forever. The comedy was hilarious, and the dramatic moments tugged at your emotions.
8. Coco
Disney did it again with this film that took all ages on an amazing journey to a fantastic new world. Miguel was a great character, and his quest was a noble one. It was about passion for a dream, and doing everything it took to make it a reality. Like it predecessors, this film came with plenty of surprises. The songs were beautiful, and the animation was top notch. One of the best films I saw this whole year.
9. Thor: Ragnarok
I have been a big fan of the previous Thor films, so I couldn’t wait to see this one. It didn’t disappoint at all. There were surprise cameos, the best Stan Lee cameo yet, and plenty of comedy mixed with impressive action sequences. I really liked Jeff Goldblum as Task Master, I could tell he had a lot of fun playing this character. It was truly one of the best films in the series yet, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
10. Goodbye Christopher Robin
I like the tales of Winnie the Pooh and all of his friends. So when I heard this movie was coming out, I couldn’t wait to see it. It did a splendid job telling the tale of the author A.A Milne and how he brought this world to life. Domhnall Gleeson gave one of his best performances all year in this film, and Will Tilston was the perfect fit to play young Christopher Robin. It showed how the creation of these characters had positive and negative implications.
With so many good films out this year, it took a bit of time to make this list. When I looked back though, these were the ones that stood out to me the most. If you haven’t seen some of these movies yet, check them out. They really are quite good. Have a Happy New Year and hopefully 2018 will bring plenty more great films.
