During a week that was wrought with one of our most profound rappers (who shall not be named as I don’t wish to taint this post) claiming that slavery was a choice, we were blessed by the genius of rapper/actor/producer, Donald Glover (also known by his rapper name, Childish Gambino).
As if his SNL hosting experience that featured two new songs wasn’t enough, he also dropped a video to “This Is America” (directed by Hiro Murai, who also directs many episodes of Glover’s hit TV series, Atlanta, and choreographed by Sherrie Silver) that has the internets abuzz.
We’ll be unpacking and processing this one for a while … the themes of gun violence, police brutality, terrorism, etc. If you’ve somehow missed it, check it out below. Watch it a few times just to take it in … then watch it again while ignoring Childish Gambino, focusing on what is happening in the background.
