Zach Braff’s newest film is almost here and it looks good.

Zach Braff, probably best known for his role on Scrubs and for his phenomenal movie Garden State, has a new movie that will hit theaters next month. Wish I Was Here is the story of Aidan Bloom (Braff), a struggling actor and family man who still isn’t quite sure what he wants to do with his life. It’s not an entirely new story to be told; but with Braff behind the writing, directing, and in the lead role it will certainly be a different movie.
Wish I Was Here first came to widespread recognition because it was funded in part via a crowdfunding campaign. Zach Braff included fans in the process by awarding backers information about the movie and a video diary of the making—and high level backers even got a credit in the film. Crowdfunding of projects like this is becoming more common because fans have always wanted a way to let filmmakers know what they want, and this way they can encourage the creation of films or TV shows.
Wish I Was Here looks quirky but meaningful, as is the theme of Braff’s work, and I’m really excited to see it when it comes out July 18th.
In the meantime go watch Garden State to get a feel for Braff’s writing and directing style. You’ll thank me later.
