The mesmeric opening sequence to the award-winning feature documentary, We Are Poets. “I come from the dense nuclei flung from the wombs of stars”. A young poet asks ‘Where do I really come from?’ in this evocative and compelling journey through a diverse cityscape. Poet: Joseph Buckley. Produced by Access Moving Image
I come from I come from blood through
anger
she looks frozen fish fingers dirty
dishes and council gas heaters
I come from concrete and coal spaghetti
bolognaise and shiny new BM X’s from tea
tree oil marijuana vapors the damn P of
launderettes holey jeans and molded meri
bottles of made in child holy water
I come from a world of miniature of
powerlessness of oversized furniture and
scruffy trainers free steps two mommies
one plastic dinosaurs and Power Rangers
I come from the motorways my friend from
the same journey three times a month
like some weary old heart that takes a
week to beat to beat out our old
battered blood cell read fear compelling
it to crawl over the spinal cord of
these British Isles just one more time
