After 20 or 30 years you’ve found yourself single again, and ugh, on the brink of dating. Dating over 60 is still pretty much the same as it was back in the day only everyone is older now. There is still butterflies, rejection and STDs, but most of the action doesn’t take place in college dorm rooms. Today’s singles are all on the web no matter their age. We’d like to touch on meeting women online because that’s your safest bet but would also like to briefly discuss some of the more traditional ways to meet potential partners.
#1: The Web
Whether you’re looking for someone close to your age or not, the web is the place to meet single women of all ages, backgrounds, and interests. You can go ahead and try some of the mainstream sites or apps and see how they work for you. Make sure to state the age group you’re interested in under preferences, and you’ll only see the women that fit that category. Put up a profile picture that clearly shows your face and create a short bio to introduce yourself. Once you do that, you can start browsing the site or app for women that seem like they would be a good match for you. Obviously, the algorithm of the service you sign up for will do the same, but it also helps to be proactive and do your own search.
#2: Matchmaking
Matchmaking is a perfect way for people past the age of 50 or so to meet, forge friendships, and potentially start relationships. Even though most of your friends might be coupled up, they still know you best and can set you up with someone who’d be perfect for you. Tell a few people from your inner circle that you’d like to meet someone, and let them work their magic. Especially include your female friends or relatives in this mission because they’re much better at matchmaking than men. Keep an open mind and prepare yourself to be pleasantly surprised.
#3: The Park
Playing with dogs and grandkids puts a smile on everyone’s face, and it’s a great conversation starter. When the weather is nice, hit the park and meet local women living near you. When you get out of the house and actively search for dates you’re bound to meet someone eligible to become your romantic partner. Borrow a dog from a friend if you have to, and keep in mind that dog people are very friendly and chatty. Compliment her pup, ask for a vet recommendation, and chat her up to see if she’s interested.
#4: Singles Cruises and Resorts
Both men and women travel alone and a singles cruise or resort is a great place to meet them. Strike up a conversation by asking her if she’s there for business or pleasure. Lots of great love and companionship stories begin in foreign countries, just make sure you check the age of visitors so you don’t end up stuck with college kids. Even better, you can choose a cruise line that is geared toward the older population like Princess or Holland America.
#5: Volunteer Groups
Women love to help out in the community and often organize fundraisers and volunteer groups for the needy. Volunteer your time and help clean up the neighborhood, hand out food packages or collect used clothing. The women in the group will see you as generous and giving, which are very popular traits in men of a certain age. Also, volunteering will help you expand your social circle, and increase your overall chance of finding the right match.
