What is the difference between grow bags and plastic buckets? Which container is more suitable for our plants? Follow me and find the answers.
Dimension
Firstly, let we compare the dimension between 5 gallon grow bags and 5-gallon bucket. The regular dimension of a 5-gallon grow bag is 12.8” in diameter and 10” in height; a 5-gallon plastic pot is 10.33” in diameter and 14.5” in Height. Grow bags are wider while shorter than plastic pots. And roots need more horizontal space so they stretch and grow freely.
A Healthy Root System
In plastic pot, roots will circle at the bottom, entangling themselves. This increases oxygenation and water stagnation problems, especially in large buckets that lack proper drainage. When end roots touch the edge of the container, they will continually grow to seek more water and nutrition, while the space is enclosed, they cannot stretch out so they begin to swirl themselves. This will damage their tissue and then restrict their absorption of nutrition.
In grow bags, when end roots touch the edge of the fabric container, with the breathable material, they will feel the dried soil exposed to air and know they are up to the limited growth. This what we call “air prunes the plant’s root structure”. This will prevent their overgrowth and eliminate girdling root system. After air pruned, there will have some fibrous roots, which are so good to absorb water and nutrition.

Thereby, grow bags are more beneficial for healthy roots.
Multi-functional Features
Both plastic buckets and grow bags have handles for moving from inside to outside or change places of sunlight adjustment. If you grow trees and need to transplant them in the ground, you can also put trees with grow bags directly in the ground as the grow bags are biodegradable.

Watering Tip
Plastic buckets need less watering times because there no holes, but over-watering will cause drown plants; grow bags need more watering times because of their excellent drainage system.

Temperature Control
In hot summer, a plastic bucket will absorb heat which can cook plants. While fabric grow bag, featured by breathable features, can adjust inside temperature and cool plants.

Storage
Plastic buckets cannot be folded up for storage, when not in use, they would occupy room in limited space. Cloth grow bags can be folded up easily to store in a cabinet.

The Advantage of Grow Bags
* A healthy root system
*Biodegradable features
*Avoid over-watering plants
*Cool plants in hot summer
*Easy for storage when not in use.
If you want to try container gardening, then must try these grow bags.
