Sometimes we are all guilty of looking around at the success of others and wondering why they are so successful. Well, I’m here to tell you that successful people didn’t become successful overnight, or by accident. They didn’t see their dreams come true because of luck or magic. (Unless they won the lottery and we know how likely that is!) What it took was careful planning followed by consistently putting their plans into action.
In other words, they had a vision and from the vision came goals. Out of the vision emerged tasks needed to complete the goals. As with most things, hard work and tenacity are generally required. The verse “you reap what you sow” comes to mind when I think of successful people. If there is no action, no cultivating efforts, just as there would be with a farmer who haphazardly tends his crops, there is no harvest. The results are usually less than what you desire. The same goes for accomplishing your goals. Sowing good seeds, using the land wisely and consistently weeding and watering the crops is required for a good harvest. If you expect success, consistently taking action on your goals is a necessary element to be successful. In 2 Corinthians 9:6 you find the words beautifully put, “The point is this: whosoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”
No consistency equals no success.
Vision + planning + consistent right action = success. They are key ingredients for reaching success and living a life you envision for yourself—a life you deserve.
Action—working at your goals—once in a while will not help you reach success just as weeding or watering his crops whenever the farmer feels like it will not provide the best harvest. Musicians don’t become virtuosos if they don’t practice consistently. Ball players don’t become star players without consistent practice. Look around you, nearly everything you observe is because someone was consistent in their efforts. Without consistent attention to the task, few people become good or experts, few novels reach the press, few CEOs have mega-businesses.
Consistency is always going to determine the quality of the harvest and reaching your goals is the harvest. Do you have your goals clearly defined? Do you consistently work at your goals to reach your dreams? Or do you work at them in spurts, what can be called drips and drabs?
