Authentic individuals can be recognized. If you fail to embrace your authentic self, you will be unable to fully walk in purpose.
What does it mean to be authentic? It means you know who you are and you are comfortable in your own skin. It means you have a vision for your life and you are not afraid to be the person you are required to fulfill that vision. Obstacles are temporary encumbrances; naysayers are mere nuisances. You find a way around obstacles and the opinion of naysayers does not deter you from living life from a place of authenticity.
Being authentic can be uncomfortable and takes effort. Just think of how easy it is to be a reflection of what and who others think you are. Many times the authentic you might be at odds with their perception of you. You may even be outside the box of traditional thinking.
When you are authentic:
• You accept yourself and your way of thinking. As a result, you respect others and can understand their way of thinking. In other words, you are more tolerant.
• You appreciate what you have to offer and don’t compromise just because it is more convenient to do so.
• You feel at ease expressing your opinions even though your opinions might be controversial.
• You know when to speak up and stand for what is right and when to remain silent.
• You are comfortable remaining silent and merely listening.
• You are on a quest to continually learn.
• You are not intimidated or uncomfortable with others who are their authentic selves.
• You pursue your vision and target your goals for your life.
Being authentic shows your true character and whether others feel comfortable with you or not, they must respect that you stand for something and that you can be counted on, true to who you are.
Because being authentic can be uncomfortable and can even be difficult to uncover. In reality, you might be afraid to explore who that authentic person is especially if you are young. It is important that you:
Surrender your fear and your urge to be liked by everyone.
Reflect on what you are drawn to do.
Learn that prayer and meditation are important to your understanding and fully embracing your authentic self.
Know that being authentic contributes to your walk in purpose.
As you can imagine, for most of us being authentic, no matter how important it is, can be hard to achieve and maintain.
