A group of men got together on International Men’s Day in London to talk about … men.
___
In November 2014 a group of men met together on London’s South Bank to have a ‘pop-up conversation’ about—men. Our invitation was to challenge taboos about groups of men meeting together and open up ideas about men talking.
I wanted us to make a journey together, a journey of enquiry about who we are we when get together as males; to celebrate our male unity and to be witnessed in our vulnerability.
It was International Men’s Day, and theatre gives opportunity for political forum. So the event gave a platform for male voices “to be witnessed, to be listened to, and to be heard.” I also wanted the journey to come from the body—to be a simple journey of movement.
The day was an experiment in that we just filmed what happened over 7-8 hours as the light fell. The audio reflections were captured the following day.
I’m very happy to be able to share this beautifully shot teaser film. The full version promises a rich content and is sounding challenging, looking great, and in production.
More Deep Diving Men will be popping up again talking about bravery at the Real Men: Behaving Bravely – Interactive Masculinity Conference, London, Edgware on Sat May 16th.
