Editors’s Note:
There’s been a lot of talk about diversity and inclusion lately.
But not all the news was good news and not all progress marches linearly forward. CNBC recently published a disturbing article stating that as a result of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, “60% of male managers now say they’re uncomfortable mentoring women.”

This is Mark Greene’s response and his advice to men on the issue:
IMHO 60% of men are pretending they feel at risk, when actually the idea of caring about how female coworkers feel is just too much bother. They’ve decided that if they don’t get to make the rules, they just won’t play. What they are failing to see is that’s not an option either.

For men, mutual professional respect across gender isn’t all that hard. You just have to give up the idea the men are better than women. To do so may require a shift in worldview, but failing to do so is professional suicide. The times have changed, gentlemen.

Guys, failing to embrace diversity and inclusion hurts your companies’ profitability, talent retention and ROI. You may be a big deal, but mess with the bottom line by challenging women’s access to a seat at the table and you’re gone. FACT: The old boys’ club is bad for business.

But there’s a huge payoff. Diversity and inclusion means learning to connect across difference: gender, ethnicity, religion, etc. When you learn to do this, the life you live, the stories you hear, and the places you’ll go become much more interesting. No longer the daily grind.

Guys, life can be amazing. Just connect and create power with INSTEAD OF power over others. Power over is an isolating illusion. Live a complete, connected life. Break out of the man box.
Be. Fully. Human.
