Every company owner is considering converting his commercial building into a smart building. And why not? It reduces energy costs, which is a huge thing considering the cost of an entire building’s energy. It makes the workplace compatible with employee’s behaviors to be at ease and perform with greater collaboration and efficiency. In front of these long-term advantages, spending on new technology does not seem to be a bad thing. But before getting a Smart Buildings technology and integrating it into the infrastructure, it is necessary to ask some technology provider questions.
Make a List of Questions
To help you get started, you first need to develop a thorough list of questions. These questions should cover your problems with your current system. They should also voice out your uncertainties about a smart building IoT platform. It could be that a particular platform might not be suitable for your company, and you install it. That could disrupt your entire workplace mechanics. It is better to ask the relevant questions and decide on a suitable IoT platform.
Some of the questions are as follows;
- How much time would it take to set up and install the system?
The installation time of every smart building system differs. The system’s protocol has differences in how it collects, stores, and then analyzes the data. You have to ask the IoT provider how much time he takes to complete the setup of the entire system and install it. It would also help if you also asked about the estimated cost of this whole process. Always decide on the price before making them do the work. Some companies also have unique requirements and tools that they require in addition to the average given tools. If your company needs those, you should discuss this as well.
- What is the level of security that you maintain on the platform?
Installing an IoT system has its advantages and disadvantages. A significant drawback is that if your system security is not up to date, then chances are your system will suffer from a security breach. To prevent this from happening, you need to ask the provider about the security measures he takes and how frequently he updates them.
- How flexible is your smart building system?
A flexible system requires only a software update from time to time. If the smart building system is flexible, you can easily customize it and add new technology. With inflexible systems, you will not be able to change it in any way, and it will give you headaches in its upgrading process. So, it is better to ask this question before deciding on a system to install.
