We Only Have This Moment
Aaron asked the audience, “Has anyone ever experienced tomorrow?”
The murmurs hushed, the energy shifting away in a flash from the woman at the front of the audience, who had just spent the last few minutes telling everyone that she starts a new diet every day. That she tells herself, when she pulls into In-N-Out Burger, that she will start tomorrow. That she will stop eating that kind of food…tomorrow.
No, we all answered, whispering the word in acknowledgement of what we already knew, and what he was trying to teach us. What the whole point of the weekend seminar was all about: We only have this moment, the present moment, in which to act. In which to be present.
I sat a few rows from the front at a weekend-long conference called the LA Vortex, hosted by YouTube Law of Attraction and Energy Awareness sensation, Aaron Doughty. His natural charm and surfer good looks certainly hold you, yet it’s his message that sinks in like a gentle but authoritative mediation.
The core message being that when we prioritize gratitude, while embodying the emotions of what it would feel like as though we were already living our ideal lives, and apply action to those imaginations, we indeed manifest what we want.
In other words, what we do every day consistently primes our energy field to receive what we project.
I admit when I go to these types of conferences (former Anthony Robbins fire walker here!), I dance with the idea that all of this is some kind of neo-hippie spirituality that I, a privileged person, can partake in by way of borrowing ancient philosophies in service of my own quest for abundance.
And sure, there is some of that, but I am able to parse what I need, and I always walk away with that old script torn and discarded. The new dialogue instead a reminder that by raising my consciousness, I tap into what’s truly possible for me so that I may be a better person for my loved ones and my fellow humans.
It’s really that simple.
But, in order to get there, we must do the work. We must decide how we want to feel, imbue ourselves in thanks and love, then act as though success was already our outcome.
In the process, we have to beat back the voices and demons that tell us no.
Okay, so maybe this is a new religion.
Or maybe it’s just a reason to wake up and understand that there are distinct worlds in which we chose to inhabit. One, our subconscious, the one connected to whatever energy source you believe in, and the other our conscious, which lives in the here and now, and the one that often keeps us grounded, but in not a good way.
While our conscious has to wake up and make breakfast and go to work and pay bills, our subconscious can remind the ego that it’s all good, it’s all for a purpose, and remind our thinking brain how damn lucky we are to be able to do all this. That subconscious can also dance and play and imagine and sing and do whatever it wants. The subconscious is the “yes” to the conscious “no.”
In short, whatever we feed our subconscious, our energy will reflect. Our higher selves, eternally connected to the higher source of it all–whatever that may be for you–will agree with what we program it for. Just make sure you know what that is in detailed specificity, imagine it with love, and seal it with gratitude.
Special thanks to Law of Attraction YouTuber, CosmicAry for inviting me to this workshop, and for your spiritual contribution to this article.
