Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time.
-Jim Rohn
WOW, the timing was well, not good. I thought my lane looked clear but my guess after hearing the crunching sound of the cars hitting each other, someone thought wrong. That person was most likely me. The timing was not good but the time spent was.
The damage to the cars was very little. No need for the police, an ambulance or filing a claim.
My Wednesdays are time well spent with my son Connor. At 6 PM I pick him up from his moms’ house and we head to the ice rink.
Part of co-parenting is compromising. Wednesdays are designated as my day and I am blessed to have the time with Connor. We talk about school or hockey. This is what our kids want. They want to spend time with us parents. They really do.
During the hockey season (September-March) I actually get to see Connor every weekend. For many of the hockey parents, they occasionally complain of the season being long, but not me. This is extra time to bond with my son.
When I was married to Connor’s mom, my thought was if Connor wanted to play and I was tired, we could play another time. I took my time with him for granted.
We cannot ever get time back. Just like in the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” you can not put your car in reverse to take off miles on the odometer.
The minor car wreck goes a little like this. I was taking Connor back home from practice. This is why it was a good time. Not the accident but just the opportunity of spending with Connor. Then I was merging into a ramp, the other car just came out of the dark. Again no injuries and little damages to the car. Timing was bad but not horrific.
Do you understand the most precious commodity is time? I will go to the gym tomorrow, I will play with the kids later, I will look for a new job tomorrow; these are time wasters and I too am as guilty of these examples as anyone.
Brian Tracy who is an author, speaker and a trainer has a great book dealing with time called “Eat That Frog”. What the gist is that we need to take care of the things we might not want to do first. For example, emailing your former spouse about pick up times for the following week. For you might be making a business call to a difficult client. Taking care of eating the frog first thing can actually give you the rest of your day. The longer you procrastinate the worse your day will get. Trust me on that one.
My goal for you is that you will see how vital our time is on this spinning blue ball called Earth. Our life is not a dress rehearsal. Can I add more clichés?
Spend time with your family even when you are too tired. You never know how much time we have left. You never know when the timing might make it the last time.
