Working from home can be substantially different from a standard day job, especially when the aspect of being a husband, a father—or all of the above—is added to the mix. The chance of being distracted by your wife or your kids is almost guaranteed.
However, if you can handle that, you’re golden, because working from home as a husband and/or father can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
Think about this. You climb out of bed at 8:00 a.m., get ready for the day and have breakfast. There is no rush to get out the door because the office is literally a stone’s throw away—if a toddler is the one doing the stone throwing.
There is no need to dress up, or even put shoes on. The car can stay in the garage since any sort of commute will be unnecessary.
Whether you want to spend time with the wife and kids, or just go straight to work, you can. This is what is called flexibility, and being a work-from-home husband and father allows for it.
This is probably the best part about working at home. The opportunities to see family are increased. If you want to play with your kids, they are in the other room. If you want to take your wife out to lunch, go ahead. You make your schedule.
Now, there are definitely setbacks to this. Working from home isn’t a flawless endeavor. Sometimes people lose sight of where the line was drawn between family and work. These two things can blend together at times and, whether this is an issue or not, work usually wins out. There must be a firm resolve to maintain a proper balance among the two.
Many families have suffered because the work took over. But, you can overcome this issue, and grow your at-home business, if you strive to uphold a standard of balance when it comes to family life and work-life. The key is to separate work and family and retain a work schedule of some sort that doesn’t dip into family time.
That is entirely up to you, however. With the flexibility feature of the work-at-home culture, you determine how much work is too much work, but you also determine when to get back to work.
The important thing to remember is that work time is work time, and family time is family time. It sounds simple and cliché, but it isn’t. It is called work-life balance.
When you are working, it is essential to let the family know you are busy and to only interrupt if an emergency arises.
On the other hand, when projects for the day have been completed, it is time to unplug. This means that when you have finished the final task, have sent off the last email, and have concluded conversations with work partners for the day, your phone and computer use should be limited—either by silencing or powering off devices.
If a husband and/or father can master the art of working from home, he’ll be the workforce equivalent of Spiderman, with the ability to multitask and accomplish things most other men cannot.
He’ll be able to work hard while achieving massive amounts of success in business. Often times, what comes with that type of success is the opportunity to delegate and outsource areas of the business that take the most time or actually bring in a large income; this is where specific strategies and marketing consultants can make the difference.
Using this types of circumstances to the benefit of the hardworking man, or woman for that matter… will allow for the possibility to be able to give the appropriate amount of time to family, without letting his work life interfere.
That kind of flexibility is hard to come by—but it is very possible.

As a stay at home mom I recommend “Medical Coding” as a wonderful work from home option. Yes, you will need training. You can’t just code medical records without having proper training. However, this is a real and promising career. I used to work for “Career Step” and they have an awesome Medical Coding course. http://www.referral.careerstep.com/mc?ref=43233 Their training is done online and is self-paced. You could finish the program in 4 months but 6 months is probably more realistic. They do however give you up to a year to get it all done. Their program is approved by the American… Read more »
