4 Reasons Being Sick Can Be Wonderful

It’s felt wonderful to relax.

That’s right, you read the title correctly. I’m sick as I wrote this but decided instead of focusing on the negative things about being sick, I’d share four reasons being sick is wonderful.

1. It’s relaxing. Okay, so maybe it’s just me, but I have a difficult time sitting still to “relax.” Shoot, half of the time I sit to “watch” a movie or television, I’m on my phone engaging in social media, or on my laptop getting some work done. Obviously this means I’m unable to relax in the true definition of the word. With being sick the last 24 hours, I’ve watched two movies with full attention. That’s right, no phone or laptop. It’s felt wonderful to relax.

2. Being cared for. Don’t take this the wrong way. Your partner may take care of you even when you aren’t sick, but boy has it been nice for my partner to cater to me! When I’m without a blanket, I’m asked if I want one. If it’s time to eat, my food is fixed for me. It’s been nice to be waited on, even if it’s temporary.

3. Read and write more. In the past 24 hours of feeling ill, I’ve finished reading a book I started months ago, and began reading a new one. I’ve also been able to come up with several topics for future blog articles, and worked on my book series without feeling stressed or anxious whatsoever.

You have the choice to change your perspective.

4. Drinking more water. Soda, juice, and milk are the three liquids I prefer to drink. For whatever reason I’ve never been a fan of drinking water. When I’m sick, I know better. I’ve read enough articles and have seen enough programs on television to know when you’re sick you need to do two things: rest up and drink water. Sleeping isn’t a problem for me, but water consumption is. Until now. Now, with being sick I’m sucking down water as if I just ran a marathon! Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but you get the point!

I wouldn’t wish sickness upon anyone. If you do get sick this year, however, I hope you remember this article. You have the choice to change your perspective, focusing on the positive things that come with being sick, instead of whining about it.
