I dim the lights in my one-bedroom apartment. Night time, silence. I yawn as usual and brush my teeth.
My phone makes some noise. I think, “It must be them”.
I flip my phone over and pull up the notification tab.
“We’re going out. You’re coming??”
These guys never sleep, do they. They’ll go out three times a week and still have an appetite for more. Wake up at 11 AM and do this all over again.
“Nah, man, I got work tomorrow. Got to meet some clients.”
“Screw work Jonathan, come out”.
My friends live the life most men dream of. Hot girls left and right. Playing tennis at the beach in the middle of the week.
On the outside, it seems like Heaven. (get my free ebook with all the life lessons I learned here)
Offer more than your Marshmallow
My friend had a girlfriend to die for. She was pretty, hot, intelligent, and came from a good family. The whole package.
But the power of his dick got the best of him.
He always wanted other girls. And did the bare minimum to get by. Didn’t give a damn about work. Or anything else other than fun. They were deeply in love for three years until his girl became aware of his attitude.
One night she told him, “You don’t have any normal friends but Jonathan”. In other words, she was saying he hung around losers and he should do better.
He didn’t do better. They broke up. And since then, he has dropped the ball with every serious woman who comes along. Yes, he gets laid a lot. But there’s a price for anything in life.
Men with nothing to offer in life doom themselves to be playboys at best .
Who am I to judge. If a guy wants to fuck around his whole life, work at a shit job and never do anything other than chase women, that’s his choice.
But all he’ll get is random SeX. Even if he sleeps with the hottest, most intelligent women (I doubt it’ll happen often), these women won’t stick around.
‘Tens’ got choices. Why would they stay with the playboy.
Don’t abuse your right to freedom
You can go out and talk to twenty different girls every night if you like.
You can spend years sleeping with different women, travel the world, and follow where your nose takes you. In tune with your desires and follow them blindly.
But when you overdo that, you lose. The fact you’re free to do whatever you want, doesn’t mean you SHOULD do whatever you want all the time.
It’s the simplest way to create a mediocre life since you stick to the easy stuff. You enjoy all the pleasures without taking any responsibility. Without commitment.
Going out and hitting on girls is easy. Going to the gym 2–3 a week is simple. And doing these alone every once in a while isn’t bad.
Rest helps you stay sane and reset.
However, at some point, a guy has to grow out of that and think about his future. Take action and make something of himself. Something he’s proud of.
Take some pressure
Dealing with challenges is part of being a man. Otherwise, you resist your nature. There’s something within you which wants to grow. Create. Build and conquer.
Women do not want a boy. They want a man. It doesn’t means you should know how to build a house or hunt in the forest.
It means you need to step up and do what matters. Do what needs to be done. Stop fucking around and get to work. Lead your and her way into a life filled with good, growth and opportunities.
All these will never happen if you spend your nights at the bar. Or your days at the gym. Or escape the issues you need to attend.
Growth won’t always be easy.
You’ll have to break through hardships, clear distractions, and admit there’s a problem you need to resolve. Who knows, maybe you’ll even have to let go of people who hold you back.
You gotta be able to stand the heat. No challenge, no growth.
Early warning signs you’re heading for disaster
1.You don’t take care of the little things- Step inside my friend’s apartment, and you’ll realize what I’m talking about.
One big mess. Shirts on the floor. Nasty kitchen. A shower that hasn’t been touched by bleach for three months. Stuff like that.
How you do anything is how you do everything. There’s a reason they say to make your bed every morning.
2. There’s an issue you need to attend- And you know it. But you do nothing.
You lock your problems deep inside a steel vault and throw away the key. You ignore them. And with time, they grow into monsters. They want out, but you keep kicking them back inside that vault.
You don’t wanna hear about them. And screw anyone who brings them up. It’s only a matter of time before everything will blow in your face.
3. You run- Some of my friends take trips abroad every few months. When things go south, they escape.
One friend got problems with the bank. He won’t pay them back because he can’t. Because he doesn’t have a job. The other gets mad at small stuff and takes a hike now and then. He’s been doing that for years.
Running doesn’t solve anything
4. You don’t think about the future- I have a 46-year-old friend I see at the bar sometimes. He’s single and never wanted to get married. He builds game apps with his brother and then sells them for a nice pile of cash.
Back when he was twenty-six, e his girl asked him, “What goals do you have for the future?”. He said, “I don’t have any goals. I just live”. Later on, he realized how dumb he was.
You should invest some time thinking about what you wanna do with your life. Be strategic about it.
5. You never finish anything– One of my childhood friends is a lovely guy. His blue eyes and wide smile make anyone like him.
But he always screwed himself with women because he gave off the impression he had no backbone.
When we were kids, he never finished anything. He started playing the guitar, then gave up a few months later. He went to the gym for a while, then quit.
When we got older, he developed the habit of complaining about everything. Quit his job when his boss didn’t give him a night off to watch a soccer game.
Don’t quit stuff just because it gets hard. Deal with them, or the habit of quitting will bleed into every area of your life.
6. You don’t have a serious job and don’t care– when you’re twenty-twenty-five, working at a dead-end job is one thing. You’re young and fuck around for a while.
But if you keep doing that when you’re thirty, then it’s not funny anymore. This should be a big sign you’re heading in the wrong direction in life.
A steady income, either from a day job or a business you built, means you can stay consistent and responsible towards something for a significant period.
Conclusion
The hard things in life build character and turn you into a confident man. A guy who women can look up to and respect. The easy stuff keeps you stuck.
