You’re out there in the world. You’re surrounded by others. You may be feeling exposed and vulnerable. If you’re anything like me, this is a reality: braving the streets in your flannels, your robe or a onesie, when you’re the only one shamefully wearing your PJs in public.
You may be feeling ashamed or that you’ve given up on life. Here’s a quick and easy guide to help you publicly flaunt your flannels with confidence.
Q. I’m going to the supermarket and I’m still in my pyjamas. Is this a good idea?
A. Yes, it’s a good idea. Don’t look back. As someone who often frequents the supermarket in their PJs, let me assure you that it’s a matter of comfort and convenience (and probably laziness), which most people commend.
Q. I’m feeling self-conscious. Should I change back into my actual clothes?
A. Do not revert to your original clothes. Walk in style while shamelessly flaunting your PJs. Embrace it. Consider a little choreographed dance to further show off your flannels.
Q. I see someone. They are walking towards me. What do I do?
A. Don’t do anything. Just keep walking. Walk right past them, strutting away in your flannels. Do it with swagger.
Q. What if they give me a judgmental look?
A. Return the favour with your own judgmental “what-the-hell-are-you-looking-at?” glare. Stare them down until they retreat. Either that or just keep walking.
Q. What if they say something?
A. Look the person in the eye and say “Yes, I’m wearing my pyjamas in public. No, I don’t care.” In fact, it may be a good idea to frequently tell yourself that as a mantra.
Q. Seriously, what if people judge me?
A. Stop it. That won’t happen. And if by some chance someone does judge you, who cares? It’s comfortable and convenient to wear your PJs, even while out and about. And no one would dare judge you for that.
