You say unite, I say untie. I saw this typo recently, and after laughing, realized it might be true. Biden and Harris will be tasked with untying the tangled web woven by 45s lies.
If Biden and Harris are going to untie America, what will they need to do it? A lot of persuasion, determination, knowledge of differences, and dexterity.
There are plenty of pundits talking about how Biden/Harris will unite the country, although I must confess a profound amount of pessimism about the chances of succeeding at that. But what about untying America? I’ll lend a hand and a pair of scissors to that effort.
To begin, they’ll need to address the 70 million or so Americans who are so submissive to a wannabe dictator that they might actually like being tied up. It’s a thing in the Dom/Sub world. They’ll have to convince those subs that being tied up, while it may be fun in certain situations, is a detriment to them in this one. They’ll have to make the case for Democracy to our own people. Sadly, they’ll also have to explain and educate as to how Democracy works.
It’s hard to make a living, raise a family, vote intelligently, or wash the stain of 2020 off our bodies while tied up and dominated by lies. In fact, the ONLY place being tied up can be fun is in bed. Not in a voting booth.
They can untangle some things that divide us. Such as generational differences. Biden is old enough to be my much older, older brother. Kamala is young enough to be my daughter if It was a teen pregnancy. Her stepchildren are Millennials, like my son. His children are 50 and 38, The beginning and end of Gen X.
How does their familial diversity help untie the nation? Biden and Harris can access their own families to bridge the generational divide that regularly ties us all up in knots.
Do they want to know about the socialist radical left? Ask the Millennials in the family to show them posts on subreddits and Finsta.
They can turn them onto podcasts such as Citations Needed. Because, no matter what the radical right calls them, Biden and Harris are nowhere near being socialist.
The youngsters can also help Biden understand why most of them hate most of the Boomers. Hint: it’s our complacency. So unwrap that complacency and go after climate change, racism, and income inequality. Burst free of the stereotypical ropes of uncaring Boomer politicians.
Biden can’t do that with one or both hands tied behind his back. He’s going to need to learn a whole new way of dealing with the ruling class in order to empower the people. He’ll also need a Democratic majority Senate. It won’t hurt to also add more young
Harris has the best access to the Millennial point of view through her children. And as Gen X, she has something to prove about her generation. She’s already torn off the gag that many of her generation have worn. They haven’t gagged themselves out of disinterest, but with hopelessness at being heard. She gives them a strong, unbound voice.
Harris can help undo some of the criticism against her for her time as California’s Attorney General by dismantling the commercial prison system. There are few things more tangled than our (in)justice system which penalizes people of color. I want to see her loosen the bonds that keep children of color, and disadvantaged white kids in the school to prison pipeline.
At the same time, Biden can work to undo some of the damage caused by the 1990s laws that bound minor drug offenders with unreasonable prison sentences. This is his knot to untie, since he voted for those laws.
On a world-wide scale, Biden will need to break the ties 45 forged with dictators. That may take some deft maneuvering. Renewing our ties with WHO, the UN, Nato, and the Paris Accord should be easier and welcomed by those organizations.
I believe the Biden/Harris team can make inroads into untying the ties that bind us into our separate roles and divisions in the U.S.
Definitely, they can strengthen our bonds with our allies. So I’m calling for their administration to first untie, and then unite us. Let’s lend them a hand.
