You know the proverbial saying “you are what you eat!” It’s actually truer than most of us realize.
Everything we put on our skin and into our stomachs enters our bloodstream and affects our brain and how it functions. It important to look at labels and pay attention to what we are putting into our bodies.
This is why I truly love shopping at Aldi versus the local grocery store. I will even travel to the next town to shop there — and it’s not just because of their prices!
Aldi has real food.
– no synthetic colors
– no added MSG
– no trans fats
– no parabens
– no sulfites
– no nitrates/nitrites
– no irradiated foods
– no synthetic vanilla flavoring
– no TBHQ and BHA/BHT preservatives are hard to avoid
– no high fructose corn syrup
They also have gluten-free options, soy-free options, Non-GMO certified products, fair trade coffee, sustainable chocolate, simple ingredients, hormone-free milk, grass-fed beef, and sustainable salmon — just to name a few reasons I love Aldi!
They’re prices really can’t be beat, which is why I am willing to drive a little ways to do my core shopping there. Their fresh produce is always a big plus for me as well. There is something for everyone in the family — including snacks and candy!
But most importantly — they have taken the guesswork out of what is in their food.
If you have never shopped an Aldi before you will want to know a few things before you go:
- You need a quarter to get a cart … but don’t worry — you get it back when you return your cart to the corral.
- They don’t carry brand names.
- The produce is FRESH — meaning you will want to be sure you consume it shortly. It doesn’t need time to ripen up beforehand.
- You need to bring your own bags — but if you forget you can always buy one there.
- The lines may look really long, but they are incredibly efficient so don’t worry! and also — get out of the way once you finish your transaction. they have a specific area to bag your groceries once you’re done.
The only downside I have to Aldi is that some of their stuff is seasonal and you can’t get it all year. But that’s a small price to pay for such brain healthy and delicious food!
