Broken Jhumka

She was standing in front of the mirror, with all her makeup and dress on, about to wear her favourite jhumka,but when her eyes fell on that jhumka– she realised it was broken.

She held that jhumka in her hand, a flood of memories came flooding back. It was not just an earring, it was a memento given by someone special, a relationship that was once very deep. Just as this jhumka is now broken, that relationship too had broken.

The small stones embedded in the earring were shining in the dim light, as if they were memories of the past, which were still hidden somewhere, reflecting memories in their sparkle.

These jhumka told the story of laughter, of soft promises, and of long nights of talks.

She tried to fix it, applying glue again and again, but each time her hands would get stuck and the jhumka would not fix. The jhumka looked fine from the front, but its back was broken. Just like her heart, which may have looked fine from the outside, but was shattered from inside.

Still, she kept trying again and again, until she realized that some things are just so broken that they can’t be fixed the way they were before. And the jhumka were no longer worth wearing.

But there was a strange beauty in her brokenness. She understood that perhaps if the broken part is removed, what remains can be even more beautiful than before.

Just like that jhumka can be made more beautiful by removing its broken part, similarly, by removing some people from your life, life can be made even better and more peaceful.

Taking a deep breath, she put the jhumka in a box. Now the jhumka was not a symbol of a broken relationship, but had become a symbol of her own strength. The strength that teaches that by removing the broken part, sometimes something new and beautiful can be made from it.

Now that jhumka was a story of her strength – one that showed her that sometimes broken parts don’t need to be repaired, but rather they need to be removed to create something new.
