You’ll shake your head in awe at the moves of legendary skateboarder Rodney Mullen. How did he get so good? By learning from failure, even when it hurt like hell.

If you’re not familiar with Rodney Mullen as a skateboarder, he’s a living legend who transformed street skateboarding. Ever heard of a flatground ollie? What about a kickflip? They are the fundamental moves you’ll see the kids in your neighborhood practicing. He’s credited with inventing those. He’s been in video games and books and movies, but his latest foray into public speaking has been absolutely fascinating to watch unfold. I’ve had the opportunity to correspond with him and, I don’t say this lightly, the man is a genius. I’m often just as in awe at the speed of the synapses in his mind and his uncanny ability to see and then connect seemingly disparate ideas as I am with his tricks. Here’s a video from the latest talk he gave, this one was at the 2014 O’Reilly Velocity conference in Santa Clara, California.
