Criticism has played a significant role throughout my life, coming from various sources — family, children, spouse, friends, and colleagues.
This list is seemingly endless.
Initially, my reaction to criticism was far from positive, especially during my younger years. When faced with criticism from schoolmates and teenage friends, my ego would flare up defensively, questioning, “Who do you think you are?”
However, as I matured and navigated through life’s experiences, I learned to view criticism, particularly constructive criticism, through a different lens.
By setting aside my defensive shield and accepting feedback without retaliating, I began to see the immense benefits it offered.
When approached objectively, criticism became a catalyst for remarkable personal growth and development.
By embracing constructive criticism, I transformed into a better mother, sister, wife, friend, and, most notably, a business owner.
The students I taught provided invaluable feedback, often critiquing the clarity of my lessons. Rather than viewing their comments as attacks, I welcomed their insights, which in turn made me a better teacher. Over time, I progressed from being a good teacher to a great one.
My business, which involved running training colleges, flourished. Students travelled from various regions to enrol in the Stephanie Roberts International College in Canberra, Australia.
Today, I hold criticism in high regard and welcome it into my life. Whether it is constructive, attacking, or even negative criticism, I recognize its value.
After all, people will always have opinions and critiques about various aspects of life, from politics to global issues like climate change.
Shift Your Perspective:
- Don’t take it personally: Criticism doesn’t necessarily reflect your character or worth.
- Focus on the feedback, not the deliverer: Separate the criticism from the person delivering it.
- View it as a gift: See criticism as an opportunity to learn and improve.
For me, criticism is not an adversary; it is a trusted ally that has guided me toward success and self-improvement.
Thank you for reading dear friends and critiques ღ!
