Look, I get it. Writing on Medium can sometimes feel discouraging when you pour your heart into writing your articles, only to watch as they don’t get the love or attention you hoped they would. However, as the title says, I want you to keep writing.
But Why?
Because a lot of us have gotten distracted by the numbers our articles either rack up or don’t — we’re forgetting what writing is all about.
Writing isn’t just a game to get the most clicks or claps. Writing is the way that we express ourselves, the way that we connect with other people, the way that we share the joy of life with the world.
And while it may seem tempting to settle and only write about topics that are guaranteed to get attention, I urge you to resist that temptation.
A viral article may seem valuable, but the real value of writing is found in the way that it allows you to tap into your deepest thoughts and emotions, and transform the passion from your soul into a tangible creation that has the potential to make a true connection with someone. Writing is simply beautiful.
Your writing can allow you to connect with people from across the world that identify with you and your ideas, but only if you are genuine with what you write. You will never be able to build an audience that really gets you and appreciates you for the amazing pieces that you write if you don’t show your true self in your writing.
So Keep Writing.
Write about everything that makes your heart light up, even if you don’t think that anyone will care — someone always will. Let the words just flow from your soul onto the page, time and time again.
With each piece you write, you will be able to connect with yourself on a deeper level, you will become more in touch with your emotions, expressing yourself clearly will become easier, and most importantly, you will make a genuine impact on others as your pieces reach more and more people. After all, that’s what writing is all about.
And hey, your Medium stats might just increase in the process.
