Does this look familiar? A tangled mess of lights stuffed in a bag or box. There is an easy solution.
—
The solution is really quite simple! Gather up some large cardboard boxes ( I’m assuming you have plenty to choose from). Cut them into pieces that will fit in a storage box. Cut a slit in the top and bottom of the piece. Hook one end of the light strand into one of the slits and wind the strand around the box. Space the winding so that you can hook the other end into the slit on the opposite end.
Label the cardboard pieces to correspond with where the lights go – tree, mantle, outside, etc. No more untangling a wadded mess of lights every year or trying to figure out where they are supposed to go on the house or tree. Simple, easy, and cheap.
Bonus tip: As you unpack the lights, plug them in and check for bad bulbs. If they aren’t replaceable, you can chuck the whole strand without having to unwind the whole thing.
