“Am I doing this from fear or love?” –A Course in Miracles
Some of the most powerful words of wisdom are also the most simple.
“A Course In Miracles” (ACIM) is chock full of simple wisdom that takes no shit from ego nonsense.
What’ll it be? Fear or love? These are the only two options.
If we come from fear, we’re confused, scared, and indecisive. If we come from a place of love, we’re solid and grounded in truth. Confident. We have conviction and are unstoppable.
I’ve been stressing out about our upcoming trip to Switzerland. Alex got a research grant to study at the University of Basel for a couple months. Which is amazing.
But here’s what our trip there looks like.
Between here and there, we’re stopping off in NYC for a few days to sightsee and so she can visit some colleges, since she’s a private college advisor. Next, we’ll be taking the train from NYC to Philadelphia for a few days to partake in her family reunion. I’m really looking forward to that—she has a big, rambunctious Italian family who makes me laugh. This will be followed by hopping on a train again back up to NYC to take a midnight flight with a layover in Copenhagen to finally land in Berlin.
We’ll be visiting Alex’s host family from when she lived in Germany during high school for a couple days. And then we’ll drive (we’re borrowing their car, and I’m driving—on the Autobahn) to a little town in France where we’ll be living, that’s just across the border from Basel, Switzerland.
So we have a lot of traveling coming up. And we have a not-quite 2-year-old. Who hates sitting still. And has the sleep habits of her father (super-light sleeper).
I’m terrified about all the connections, layovers, and amount of time she’ll have to sit still in one place.
To add to that, we’ll be running Alex’s business remotely which we’ve never really done before, so we’re relying on technology and the hope that her clients will actually use it to meet with her online as opposed to in-person.
So, I’ve been stressing balls (is that a term?). But when I read this little line from ACIM, I realize, all of my stress comes from a place of fear (obviously).
I mean, boo-hoo, right? Poor Jonas has to go to Switzerland with his family. We feel so sorry for him.
The ego is unbelievable.
But if I sit back, breathe, close my eyes, and come from a place of love, it all fades away.
This is going to be an amazing trip. Sure, it may be stressful. Sure, Rory may freak out. There may be blood, tears, and vomit.
But we’ll be fine. We’ll make it alive. Rory will adapt. Or not. But we’ll get there.
I’ve never been out of the country. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to travel internationally as a family to one of the most beautiful places in the world.
It’s going to be fine. Hell, it’s going to be epic.
I choose love.
