Don’t throw your money away
Food waste is a major issue. We waste fully forty percent, 40% of food, and that means a huge waste of our planet.
Emissions are huge in growing, producing, distributing, and then, tossing our food waste. Restaurants and other food outlets are now beginning to provide Apps to help those who eat food to feast on high-quality leftovers.
The more people who get involved, the better. Think of the savings not only in food waste, but in water, in precious soil, in the lives of disposable animals, and in so much more.
During the present inflation and climate crisis, this is shameful. It is also unnecessary. You can save money by learning to find those food outlets that are doing the right thing.
Who do we call?
I will not advertise any of the apps, or the names of the places, where you can learn to find free food.
There are simply too many, and it would also not be fair to promote anyone more than any other. Neither do I have access or expertise.
However, there are restaurant chains, mom-and-pop shops, giant hotels, and tiny outlets such as bakeries, grocery outlets, or kiosks. You can find them relatively easily.
Look in your own area, and go online to find apps, tips, and more.
Here is a few places worth investigating to start reducing waste, but these vary quite a lot by region.
What about all that packaging?
We do need to reduce packaging. But now that so many places feel forced to offer delivery, we are just wasting more resources than ever before.
This may be a way to counter some of that waste.
We should suggest to all food outlets that they convert their plastic and paper waste to biodegradable options.
Or, you could insist on using your own reusable containers.
We should always be humble in this, and never defensive, as that is almost certainly counter-productive.
Processed food, diet, nutrition, and obesity
Our present food systems promote unhealthy people as well as unhealthy planetary loss.
This may change suddenly as the full effects of climate unfold. Or it may be slower in some places than in others.
There are also vegetarian and vegan places going the way of less waste. Tap into them to promote doing what you feel is right.
