Looking at victimhood
Here is a thought for all men and women who feel that we human beings pick on men. Or, conversely that under patriarchy, it’s women who are the most victimized.
Far more men — and not just a few more women too — need to realize that in comparison to other creatures, male creatures that cannot reproduce have far less dangerous lives to live.
That is, having a uterus is very dangerous on this planet.
Yes, they do stomp, crush, and gas the male baby chicks, but for hens, the torture does not end nearly so quickly. It’s even worse for sows who are crate crammed to suckle delicious and dollarable piglets. And, cattle, cows, goats, sheep and other livestock will suffer immensely by the reality of being able to have babies, and lactate.
I’m not going to go into the gruesome details here, (look it up to convince yourself if you need to eat less meat, save the planet, be healthier and better, crush the patriarchy like a newborn chick, etc. etc.)
The new reality of identity politics, contesting for greatest victimhood, and having world leaders exalt their witch-hunted status is really quite pathetic when we look at the actual reality of how other species truly, and horrifically, suffer under domination hierarchy.
It would do well for all angry and whining men to notice the link between oppression and privilege. Women too. It could help a number of anti-human rights women too, but admittedly, I have seen more women stand up for animal rights than I have ever seen many males do.
This is woven into our culture.
When involved with animal rescue organizations, the supportive army I joined was always 90% female. Which is a bit weird, considering that men usually have more direct experience with the torture and killing that must happen for people — and even our pets — to eat.
I suspect this has something to do with the myth of killing being more “manly, the suggestion that females are more in their feelings, domination of resources of Earth being lauded rather than shamed (until quite recently), the idea of possession of herds and harems being encouraged, and the idea of man the hunter as the narrative — rather than human the forager — for most of our lives.
There is a whole other aspect of course of racism. We would never force the elite, rich, white, powerful male to ever be the factory farm worker, despite the myth that it takes a tough, strong, hardened man to cope with such work. Such work is beneath him.
The idea of ‘beneath’ one’s dignity speaks volumes about where the actual tolerance and strength is, which is generally, within the body of the female animal.
Despite centuries of knowing human beings, factually, are animals, religion, tradition, and dominating attitudes prevail to keep other species as commodities rather than related, sensing, organisms.
This is one thing the all-consuming profit machinery of this century will be severely judged by in the decades of hindsight.
Meat, eggs, and dairy use the body of the female. If more people, espeically men, spend more time thinking about the absolute unfairness of being female in this regard, I think our world could improve quite a lot.
Since the advent of agriculture makes feeling beings into commodities, most of us still do not know of this. Out of sight is on purpose of course, and it happened slowly enough that only those people(and species) exploited by such systems really know about it.
I mean, very, very few of us want to know how the suffering that goes into food production, including habitat loss due to ranching and development.
The future us of the uterus
We could clone our meat, or use other proteins for our dairy and eggs, but that won’t happen until men accept they have huge influence. As do the women who accept the status quo.
Men and women could fight all day long (and we will!!) about whether human females should have a say in whether they get contraception, or reproductive rights. Globally, this would lead to all kinds of family, communal, and thus, economic freedom and a healthier planet.
But it’s worth thinking about that even if you are not a social justice warrior or feminist, you should be against suffering. We must champion the idea of decreasing suffering overall, not just if you are human, but because you are human and awareness shapes what we feel and do.
We can’t keep compassion and cooperation alive if all we do is avert our eyes to destruction and death. And, then, there is the health of the climate to consider as well.
This idea requires that we begin to see our role in forcing reproduction upon billions and billions of beings around the world. A very immense number of sentient beings are being used for their uterus.
No one who hates suffering could be for such exploitation unless they choose to be entirely blind to it.
