Yesterday, when I opened up the dating app, Hinge, I was presented with a pop-up informing me that they’ve added a new feature for users to include in their profiles.
Okay, cool, what is it?
Dating Intentions.
They’ve only now decided that it was worth including on a dating app? One where you already have had the option to include work, job title, school, education level, religious beliefs, pronouns, sexuality, ethnicity, your family plans…
Yes, they thought to include your preference for having children eons before they decided to include what you are looking for in a relationship.
Seems a bit backward.

Users can now update their profile to include their Dating Intentions from the following options:
Life partner
- Long-term relationship
- Long-term relationship, open to short
- Short-term relationship, open to long
- Short-term relationship
- Figuring out my dating goals
- Prefer not to say
…
Hinge is known as the app to use to find a relationship. Their tagline is the dating app designed to be deleted.
So it’s a bit odd to me that they are only just rolling this feature out.
Though, as much as they can advertise themselves as a relationship finder, there are a lot of people using Hinge for short-term flings.
So, I suppose it’s good that people can indicate what they’re looking for in their profiles instead of swapping messages back and forth for a few days before realizing they both want entirely different things.
I guess we will see how this shapes the Hinge dating experience.
Let me know your thoughts on this new feature in the comments!
