Every Blue up in Blue-ville liked Democracy a lot…
But the Trump, who lived south of Blue-ville did NOT!
Trump hated democracy! The whole election season!
Now please don’t ask why, no one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head wasn’t screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, that he wasn’t too bright.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his heart was several sizes too small.
But whatever the reason, his heart or his head,
He stood on election eve wishing his “enemies” dead.
Staring up from Mara-Lago with his sour Trumpy frown
At the warm lighted polling places above in each town.
For he knew every Blue up in Blue-ville up north
Would vote to promote equality and individual worth
“They’re hanging their pride flags!” he snarled with a sneer.
“Tomorrow is election day, it’s practically here!”
Then he growled with his little Trump hands anxiously stimming.
“I MUST find a way to stop Democracy from winning!”
For tomorrow he knew…
Every Blue person regardless of race, gender or creed
Would get “woke” bright and early.
Vote for inclusion to succeed…
That’s one thing he really hated! When diversity and inclusion succeed!
Then the Blues, black and brown, would condemn inequality
They’d insist on equality!
And Trump couldn’t stand that allyship, their cohesive polity.
And then they’d do something he liked least of all
Every blue down in Blue-ville, the tall and the small
Would align close together as neighbors and brothers
And proclaim very loudly that there are no “others”.
The more Trump thought about this compassionate take
The more he decided that anything but his winning was FAKE!
Then he got an idea!
An awful idea!
THE TRUMP GOT A TREASONOUS, AWFUL IDEA!
“I know JUST what to do!” He laughed to himself
“I’ve got lots of connections, I’ve got lots of wealth!”
So he called in some favors, “What a great Trumpy trick!
I’ll say I won no matter what, because I am such a crazy d*ck!”
All I need is 11,000 votes…
The Trump looked around
But since red votes were scarce, there were none to be found.
Did that stop old Trump?
No! Trump simply said…
If I can’t find the votes, I’ll make them up instead!
So he called on his followers, MAGA, from the ellipse
The command to storm the Capitol emerged from his lips
THEN
He sat back and watched, safely from his TV
As they chanted “Hang Mike Pence” with unfettered glee
Then Trump said, “It was a day of love”
Ignoring the fact
That people had died when Democracy was attacked.
Trump ran to FOX NEWS and told THE BIG LIE
Millions were fooled, and we’ll never know why.
But those who knew the truth asked why, Trump, why?
Why are you disparaging our Democracy, why?
But you know, that old Trump was so sleazy and so slick
He thought up other lies and he thought ‘em up quick
The others, he said, they’re a cult, a cabal
They drink blood, eat pets!
They’re civilization’s downfall!
I’m taking over the government with my friends Elon and Putin
And we’ll fix it up for you nice, no more BLM lootin’.
And his fib fooled the naïve. With their doubts put to bed
They went back to sleep, not knowing the future to dread.
And as the clueless stopped questioning, complicit with inaction
He put together a wealthy and amoral faction.
The last thing he took was belief in real facts
They lost their ability to follow the tracks.
To those adrift, he left nothing but hatred and attacks
And the one speck of hope
That he left for the nation
Was our ability to access correct information.
As the years went by after his failed coup
The belief in his lies just grew and grew.
His followers were angry, they loved their guns
They hated anyone who thought killing wasn’t fun.
They flew their Trump flags, proudly sporting bumper stickers
Always sensing they were looked down on by educated city slickers.
When election eve came around again, they grabbed the p*ssy
Of a Democratic society they thought was filled with sissies.
They voted for Trump, instead of equality and peace.
They wanted to “own the libs” and cause chaos and grief.
But much to their dismay, when the votes were counted.
The libs didn’t defecate on the Capitol, no challenges were mounted.
Suddenly the big lie he told about the “stolen” election
Was transparently not so, a horrible deception
And the Blues banded together, their allyship not a surprise
But still confounding the MAGAS, who see the world with hate-filled eyes
Every Blue up in Blue-Ville, the tall and the small
Was still advocating for equality, without any victory at all.
He hadn’t stopped democracy from existing, it lives on!
Somehow or other, democracy still won!
And Trump, with his Trump heart still way undersized
Just could not explain it, was shocked and surprised.
Maybe Democracy, he thought, is not cabals or coups
Maybe Democracy is the ‘haves’ taking care of the fews
And what happened that day was maybe nothing at all
His heart stayed ridiculously hard and small
His followers were emboldened with racism and hate
The country became much worse, much less great
But democracy itself grew three sizes that day!
Progress may be slow, we can’t always see the way.
But when we join hands and understand that come what may
We are united by spirit, by hope and by truth
And growing up in a democracy, we can count on our youth
To promote those values, and reject the division
Promoted by Trump, and those lies of revision.
Welcome Democracy
While we stand.
Heart to heart and hand to hand.
Democracy is in our grasp.
So Long as we have hands to clasp.
with apologies to Dr. Seuss. For everything.
