An interview with the Hageman Brothers about Star Trek Prodigy
Star Trek has been a hit almost from the beginning. Over the years the fan-base for this series has only continued to grow. Star Trek Prodigy has been great so far, and last season this crew went on their most dangerous mission yet. I was able to ask the creators of this show a few questions and here is how they answered them.
1. What do you enjoy most about working on Star Trek: Prodigy?
For us, it’s such an amazing experience when you and your writers room deliver a script, and then have a highly skilled team of artists take those pages and bring them to life better than you could ever imagine. Whether it was one of our actors delivering the lines in a performance that exceeded what we heard in our heads, or our asset designer creating LCAR panels and props that added hidden details calling back to prior Star Trek series, or our composer delivering music that stirred us to our core, it’s that final moment when it all comes together and you watch it on a big screen and realize all of our expectations were shattered.
2. Do you have a favorite episode from the 2 seasons so far?
Our two favorites are the last episodes of season one and two. When you spend so much time with these characters, and put them through so much, it’s such a cathartic and emotional experience to see them finally get what they always wanted, but in the most unexpected way. We’re suckers for a good, emotional ending.
3. What challenges did you face while making season 2?
After completing Season 1 and looking at Season 2, we realized to further both Gwyn and Chakotay’s storylines the time travel and two Solum stories would make the season very complicated. Time travel is always intimidating to write, and we feared we’d lose our audience, so we and our writers took great care and consideration laying out the intricate season. While Season 2 might be a challenge for our youngest viewers, we were very relieved to see most of our audience followed and enjoyed it all.
4. Why do you think people should watch this show?
Starships, time-travel, teenage aliens who create a found family – what’s not to like?! We love Star Trek, and we understand its vast universe can be a difficult barrier of entry for the new viewer. We strove to create an easy on-ramp for the uninitiated and tell an assessable story that is not only filled with space, science, adventure, wonder, and hope — but filled with heart, to create a story that will move you and deliver an unforgettable experience.
Star Trek Prodigy season 2 is available now on Blu-Ray. You can follow this show on Facebook and Instagram.
