Some Democrat incumbents have even faced challenges from their own parties, and no better example exists than Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). The 85-year-old, four-term lawmaker has long resisted calls for retirement, and state Democrats handed her a strong rebuke last week, when the party gave its coveted endorsement to Los Angeles State Senator Kevin de Leon in the race for California’s Senate seat. Despite the defeat, Feinstein still has fans on social media, enough to outnumber naysayers—though barely. Positive opinions of Feinstein dominate by just 52 percent vs. 48 percent negative. However, Feinstein might have another chance before the midterms to take center stage and win over voters. She will serve as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee when it kicks off confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh later this summer. –Hugo Guzman
