Let’s talk about goals.
Every new year, people show up with a fresh dose of optimism. They write down their resolutions, swear this is their year, and dive in headfirst.
But you know what? Most of them don’t even come close to achieving those goals.
Why?
Because they’re weighed down by a pile of excuses.
Let’s be real, excuses are sneaky.
They don’t show up waving red flags. Instead, they hide behind justifications that sound reasonable, even logical. Our egos cling to them like a shield, protecting us from having to face the truth.
And guess what? I’ve been there.
I didn’t wake up one day with all the answers or a roadmap to success. Far from it. Everything meaningful I’ve achieved took far longer, cost far more, and challenged me in ways I never expected.
Years to make my first dollar in business.
A lifetime to find real love.
Parenting and health? Don’t even get me started — those are works in progress.
But let me tell you about the excuse that kept me stuck for years.
“I don’t have enough money.”
And sure, it was technically true. I didn’t have much. I was managing an apartment complex, working from home while raising two daughters. I juggled church, helping my mom, and carving out time for friends — all while trying to educate myself on anything and everything I cared about.
But you know what’s funny? I somehow always had enough money when it came to things I deemed necessary. Credit cards, borrowing from family — it all went to cover what I thought mattered most.
Yet when it came to investing in my dreams, I pinched pennies. I hired the cheapest help I could find or, worse, tried to do everything myself.
When it came to my health, I tried my damnedest to find shortcuts to the healthiest options, which worked — sorta, not really.
And the result?
I didn’t save a dime.
I lost money.
And even more valuable, I lost time.
Excuses cost more than you think.
So, here’s the deal, if you’re serious about making 2025 your breakthrough year, you need to face your excuses head-on.
A Simple Two-Step Exercise
Step 1: Call Out Your Biggest Excuse.
Write it down. Seriously, grab a pen and put it on paper.
Is it “I don’t have time”?
Or maybe, “I can’t afford it”?
How about, “I’m too comfortable where I am”?
For me, the killer was “I don’t need help.” That one excuse cost me years of progress.
Step 2: Destroy It.
Rip that paper to shreds. Burn it if you need to. Do whatever it takes to physically, mentally, and emotionally destroy that excuse.
Stop letting it dictate who you are and what you can or cannot do.
We’re all human.
We’re imperfect, but that’s not a life sentence. It’s an invitation to grow, to improve, and to break through the barriers we’ve built for ourselves.
It’s 2025. No more excuses.
This year, commit to action.
Face your fears.
Invest in yourself.
And stop letting those tired excuses steal your time, your potential, and your life.
What’s the one excuse you’re leaving behind this year?
