FREEZING THE PRESENT
Today is not a continuation of yesterday. Tomorrow is nothing more than what you do today. Few lessons are taught during comfort, ease and pleasure. I took a cold shower immediately after close intimacy with my wife today.
I did this on purpose. The sudden rush of fifty-degree cold water trains my mind to be grateful for pleasurable moments of respite. Most moments are displeasuring moments of struggle.
Moments of struggle can inspire incredible moments of epiphany. In order to appreciate comfort, one must know discomfort. To value trust, one must experience betrayal. To be grateful for love one must endure hate.
One’s sense of justice comes from the injustice one experiences. I remind myself often not to be happy or sad during any moment. All of them are there to teach me something. Some teach better than others.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD & EVIL
Heroes and villains have similar origin stories. Both experience unjust treatment. Both are betrayed. Both struggle through abandonment. There is one distinct difference between many heroes and villains.
Their response to pain.
The hero makes a choice to protect those from their painful experiences. The villain makes a choice to inflict the same injustices they experienced on the world as retribution for their mistreatment.
Heroes. Villains. They are both forged in the same crucible. The difference between them are what each one does with their pain.
ARE YOU ADOPTING A VILLIAN MINDSET?
Are you deciding no man or woman deserves trust anymore because of the betrayal you’ve experienced?
Are you deciding to never count on a man because of an oppressive past relationship?
Are you deciding to never marry again because your previous spouse took you to the cleaners financially?
If the answer is yes. You might have a villain mindset.
BECOME THE HERO
You don’t need to be a villain. You can be a hero. Your Origin Story’s conclusion depends on your response.
You can choose to be the person who learns to impart trust wisely. You can teach the value of trust to your future partner. You can be the person who communicates how oppressiveness destroys love instead of building it. You can be the person who forges a responsible economic marriage with measured accountability.
Sometimes the person who needs to be saved is you. So, rescue yourself from your villain’s clutches. Leaving them to fester in your mind will destroy your world.
Be your own hero. Are you up to it? Let me know in the comments.
CLOSING VERSE
The Final Testament. The Holy Quran. Sura [15:28–38] Your Lord said to the angels, “I am creating a human being from aged mud, like the potter’s clay. “Once I perfect him, and blow into him from My spirit, you shall fall prostrate before him.” The angels fell prostrate; all of them, except Iblis (Satan). He refused to be with the prostrators. He said, “O Iblis (Satan), why are you not with the prostrators?” He said, “I am not to prostrate before a human being, whom You created from aged mud, like the potter’s clay.” He said, “Therefore, you must get out; you are banished. “You have incurred My condemnation until the Day of Judgment.” He said, “My Lord, respite me until the day they are resurrected.” He said, “You are respited. “Until the specified day and time.”

This article is meant to provoke thought — not argument. It’s a way of opening up the mind to alternative ideologies based on what one reads — not what one hears. The belief is personal and of course I respect everyone’s personal beliefs. I condemn no one for choosing whatever path — as clearly I mean to choose my own.
