As someone who values humility more than the average person, I am absolutely shocked that the above two people made it into the title of this article.
In some ways, it’s hard not to think about Donald Trump, considering he’s all over the news…and Twitter. As far as Kanye, well, he seems to have a knack for constantly reminding us all that he still exists.
And now you have an idea of where I’m going with this.
Love them or hate them, these two infamous celebrities have an uncanny ability to generate buzz and market themselves to their respective audiences.
We all have an idea of who we want to be, but the hard part is getting to that point.

I’m sure we all wish they were a little more altruistic with their messages, but nonetheless, I can’t think of two other people who are more effective at capturing attention.
This could come in handy for those of us who are trying to reach an audience. Whether you’re building a company, creating a community, or simply marketing yourself, you need to capture the attention of others.
Here are some insightful tidbits I’ve gathered from briefly studying Donald Trump and Kanye West:
Set unrealistic goals. Have you always wanted to marry Kim Kardashian? Have you always dreamed of becoming President of the United States of America? Well, too bad. You can’t technically do either at this moment, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t aim high. When setting a long-term goal, it’s OK to think a little more unrealistically. The realism comes into play when you create your short-term, actionable steps that add up to long-term success.
Don’t be afraid to voice your opinion. One thing we can all agree on is both individuals have an insane amount of bravado, in person and on social media. Neither is afraid to voice their (usually unpopular) opinion to the public. I wouldn’t personally recommend speaking without thinking, but we could all borrow a fraction of their audacity when sharing our thoughts with others. After all, why would any care about what you have to say if you don’t?
Think highly of yourself. Once again, it’s no secret that both Donald and Kanye are their own biggest fans. There isn’t anyone on Earth that loves them more than they love themselves. It’s clear that they know who they are and embrace it. We all have an idea of who we want to be, but the hard part is getting to that point. The quickest way to start is to act the part. Much like the age old advice, “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have,” it’s important to start embracing the person you want to be.
Become comfortable with failure. No one has ever accomplished anything great within their comfort zone. In order to operate outside of the box, failure is necessary. Ask both the Donald and Yeezy. Judging by their laundry list of exploits, they are obviously comfortable with failure. From Trump Airlines (among many other failures) to the Yeezy Season 4 fashion show, both people have faced failure head on and somehow shrugged it off, only to go head first into the next endeavor.
Constantly reinvent yourself. OK, this one may be a little more controversial, but you can’t deny that both Trump and Kanye have a history of reinvention. Whether it’s reestablishing yourself by releasing an album that claims you’re a god, or launching various products that reflect your brand (Trump Vodka anyone?), it’s important to constantly challenge yourself. There’s nothing wrong with sharing your efforts with your audience, as long as you are transparent and making progress (and not cheating people along the way).
