Sometimes in life, figuring out how to move forward can feel overwhelming, almost like a heavy weight on your chest…
How will I start?
How will I succeed?
How will I recover from this setback?
How will I find the money, the courage, the support, the time?
I know that feeling quite well. I’ve lived through moments when the “how” drowned out every dream I had. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably felt that same struggle between what you want and the doubts that make you question if it’s possible.
But here’s something I’m learning, even though it takes time and isn’t always simple:
Your why will carry you farther than any how.
The Weight of the “How”
We often believe that having a plan is what moves us forward; the steps, the timing, the money, and all the details. The “how” is important. But if we focus on it too much, it can start to feel like it’s holding us back.
The “how” makes you overthink.
It makes you hesitate.
It can make you turn your big dreams into something smaller and safer.
Sometimes, we don’t fail because we lack the ability.
We fail because we convince ourselves not even to try.
And that’s where the power of your why comes in.
Let Your Why Be Your North Star
Your “why” is your story.
Your origin.
Your fire.
Your unfiltered truth.
It’s not just about having a goal. It’s about knowing why you want that goal in the first place.
Why do you want to start that business?
Why do you want to change careers?
Why do you want to heal, grow, or reinvent yourself?
Why do you want to become someone more aligned with who you know you can be?
Your why is very personal. It gets you out of bed in the morning. It stays with you when you feel lost. It quietly encourages you when you’re tired. It keeps reminding you to keep moving forward.
And when things get unclear, your why becomes the steady light that guides you.
Let Your Why Outweigh Your Fear
Here’s the thing: I’ve held myself back many times because I got stuck worrying about how to do things. I overthought every step. I put off my dreams because I didn’t feel ready. I doubted myself because I didn’t have a perfect plan. didn’t have a perfect roadmap.
But lately, I’ve been asking myself different questions:
What if the how figures itself out once I take the first step?
What if clarity comes from movement, not planning?
What if my why is actually strong enough to create opportunities I can’t see yet?
And the answer keeps coming back the same:
The why is stronger.
The why is louder.
The why is enough.
I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. I see people around me; friends, family, readers, maybe even you — who feel stuck in the same pattern. You might have the passion but not the plan, the dream but not the steps, the desire but not the confidence.
This piece is for us.
A Gentle Reminder for All of Us
If the “how” feels overwhelming today, pause. Take a breath.
Return to your “why.”
Sit with it.
Reconnect with it.
Let it fill you until it becomes the only thing that matters.
When your purpose is strong, the way forward starts to look different. You begin to see new possibilities instead of just obstacles. You notice opportunities where you once saw barriers. You start to believe that even small progress matters.
Let your why pull you forward.
Let it be the anchor.
Let it be the power.
The how will come. It always does.
Let’s Get Better Together
If you’re reading this and thinking, “This is me,” you’re not alone. I wrote this piece thinking about myself, but also thinking about the countless people quietly fighting the same internal battle.
May this inspire you.
May it push you.
May it create positive change.
And may your why, your truth; your fire, your dream, be stronger than any doubt that tries to stop you.
Let’s keep growing.
Let’s keep moving.
Let’s get better together.
Yes! Let’s get better together.
