Life truly becomes so much simpler when you stop trying to explain yourself to others and do what feels right for you.
I want to share my journey with you, hoping it reaches your heart and inspires you to listen to your own inner voice a little more.
I grew up in a strict household, surrounded by rules and expectations. Every time I did something that felt right to me but didn’t fit the mould, I had to explain myself, sometimes over and over again. There was this constant need to justify my actions whenever they stepped outside the boundaries set by family or society.
My school years, spent in a convent boarding school, were no different. The nuns meant well, guiding us with love and discipline, but their rules were clear and unbending. For ten years, from the age of seven through seventeen, following the rules was my life. I learnt obedience, but also felt the weight of having to conform and seek approval constantly.
Everything changed when I ventured out into the bustling city of Bombay in the late 1960s. I was a young girl, fresh out of school and training college, thrown into the excitement and chaos of the working world.
For the first time, I began carving my own path. I realised that when I handled situations in ways that made sense to me, even if they were different from what others expected, I got good results. This built my confidence. I slowly stopped feeling the need to justify every choice and instead focused on what worked for me.
Decades have passed since those early days, and I’ll be honest: I still don’t have all the answers. But I do know that staying connected to my intuition and my higher self has brought me peace and a sense of purpose.
I never preach something I haven’t lived or felt myself. I can only share my own take on life: try trusting yourself and stop letting other people’s voices drown out your own inner wisdom.
By focusing on your own needs and values, you free yourself from the pressure of others’ expectations. Letting go of the need for approval creates more space for personal growth and authentic happiness.
When you do what works for you, you attract people who appreciate you for who you truly are. Prioritising your own well-being often leads to less stress and a greater sense of inner peace.
Ultimately, living authentically inspires others to do the same, creating a more understanding and supportive environment.
So take in what others say, but always remember: your life is yours to live. Listen to advice, learn what you can, but choose what rings true for you.
It’s your journey. Make it your own.
